Mad Musée

As a referential institution in the field of outsider art in Europe, MADmuseum is engaged [and specialized] in the practice of exhibiting and collecting art created by artists with learning disabilities in a context of studios.

The MADmusée is a nonprofit organization issue from the Créahm studio (Creativity and mental disability) funded in 1981 in Liège.

The MAD’s international collection includes over 2500 works. The MAD’s is a specialized documentation center who offers the opportunity to collect the vast range of publications on the wide field of outsider art.

The MAD’s is an educator programs that develops tools for an appropriate reception for all visitors. Partnerships with prestigious museums (Collection de l’Art Brut, Lausanne; The Centre for Intuitive and Outsider Art, Chicago; Grand Curtius Liège; arts & marges musée, Brussels).

The MADmuseum is a reflection on art in general, on non-academic creation and its confrontation with contemporary art. The MADmuseum is part of the European Outsider Art Association and since the creation of the association as a formal platform, the MADmuseum has contributed actively to the development of the exchanges within the association.

In 2017, the MADmuseum will be completely renovated. The museum will continue its work in a new infrastructure that has improved in every aspect. The museum is now closed. The documentation center is always accessible to the public. During the season 2015-2016, the exhibitions takes place in the Theater of Liège.
