Fond "Ilija & Mangelos" / Ilija & Mangelos Foundation
Ilija & Mangelos Foundation was founded with a main goal to preserve and promote the name and the work of the two artists: Ilija Basicevic Bosilj and Dimitrije Basicevic Mangelos. Following that goal, this Foundation has organized several exhibitions in Serbia and abroad. Main focus of the Foundation is to develop a new approach to the artistic oeuvre of those artists as well as a professional, theoretical and institutional positioning of their work on the map of the contemporary art. After the very successful one-man show Ilija had in New York in 2006, his work has been exhibited several times among the big names of modern art: Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, Paul Klee etc. and the reproduction of Ilija's painting has been published in The New York Times. Ilija's exhibition in The Artistic Pavilion "Cvijeta Zuzoric" in Belgrade, 2008, has recorded an unusually high rate of visitors for one artistic event. 10.000 visitors has seen the show for one month. Through those achievements as well as the substantial presence in the media space in Serbia, our Foundation constantly promotes cultural values and particulary, the field of visual art.

Since a part of our mission is to develop the visual art's scene in Serbia, Ilija & Mangelos Foundation has become a partner in the organization of the Young Visual Artist Award in Serbia. This award, which carries the name of Dimitrije Basicevic Mangelos, is an effective way to help young artists in Serbia. Thanks to the initiative and the help of the The Foundation for a Civil Society (FCS) from America, each year one young artist is being given an artist residence in New York and through that, a possibility to learn about the world art scene. While preparing to apply for this award, young artist has to learn how to prepare his/her artistic portfolio and how to present his/her work. The name of Dimitrije Basicevic Mangelos is a symbol for giving a space to young artists who are entering the art world, since he was well known as an art critic who was eager to recognize young artists as well as new media in art.
